Farrands Flowers, a presence in Ogdensburgs business community for 70 years, will move to a new location with a new owner.
Owner John C. Farrand said Tuesday he is selling the business, located at 118 King St., to Patricia Kelley, a 20-year store employee and owner of an events planning business, PK Solutions, Ogdensburg.
Mrs. Kelley will within the next three to four weeks relocate the business with PK Solutions across town to a 3,000-square-foot storefront building at 1021 Paterson St.
The name of the business will remain the same and Mr. Farrand will stay on as a consultant.
I want to keep the keep the integrity of Farrands Flowers, Mrs. Kelley said.
The new owner got off to an encouraging start Tuesday when the Ogdensburg Growth Development Corp. agreed to lend her $36,000 - payable in seven years at 3.25 percent interest - to help pay for her purchase of the business, moving and renovations as well as inventory.
The new store will have no greenhouse, but it will have more window and outdoor display space as well as an expanded gift shop.
Mr. Farrands father, the late William C. Farrand, opened the store in 1940.
