Woodville- Amby J. Loomis, 86, Lake Rd., Woodville, passed away Tuesday morning at the Samaritan Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Woodville a son to Amby H. and Maude Jackson Loomis. He was a 1944 graduate of Union Academy Belleville. Amby served with the Army-Air Corps from 1945-1947. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Sidmore Oil Co., Belleville. He was a rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for 35 years. Amby drove school bus for the Union Academy Belleviile school district for 27 years and was a self-employed painter for many years.

Mr. Loomis was a life member and past fire chief with the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department and was recently honored by the department for 60 years of service. He served as president for the New York State Rural Letter Carrier Association and was an avid golfer and bowler. Mr. & Mrs. Loomis spent winters in Florida.

Amby married Eva Arlene Sidmore March 29, 1950 in Ellisburg.

Amby is survived by his wife, E. Arlene. Four sons and their wives, Gary and Amy, Sackets Harbor; Charles and Marlene, Woodville; Dennis and Lisa, Park City, UT; David and Chris, Adams. 10 grandchildren, Ben, Bryan, Shauna, Sharlene, Chaz, Parker, Hunter, Nick, Jenessa and Nathan Loomis. Four great grandchildren. One niece Roseann Bockman, Colorado Springs. He was predeceased by a grandson, Garrett W. Loomis April of 2010 and a sister Florence Krupinski.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. Burial will be for the convenience of the family in Woodside Cemetery, Belleville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Garrett Loomis Firefighters Fund, c/o Northern New York Community Foundation, 120 Washington St., Suite 400, Watertown, NY 13601.

Arrangements are with the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
