PLESSIS — A woman here will be paying $82 to reclaim her impounded black Labrador retriever, Xera, and that is before she resolves her charge of cruelty to animals, lodged Tuesday by state police.

Desiree M. Wilmarth, 25, of 23858 Hunter Road, additionally is cited with failure to license the year-old female dog, and is due to appear in town of Alexandria Court.

Todd L. Cummings, Jefferson County dog warden, said Ms. Cummings’s dog has twice nipped a woman, and has not had any inoculations, including for rabies. He is required by state law to keep the dog confined for 10 days, and Ms. Wilmarth will be required to pay for the confinement and for the required shots, he said.

A trooper cited the animal cruelty count after finding Xera chained inside a shed where garbage had collected, police said.

Mr. Cummings said Ms. Wilmarth initially was cited Jan. 21 with failure to license the dog, and had been given 10 days to have the dog inoculated. She did not do that, he said.
