BOONVILLE A fire that destroyed a village storage barn Monday night on Main Street has been ruled suspicious.
Skaters used the barn as a warming room at the village ice rink, and it also served as the site of the Boonville Farmers Market.
The market has been dealt a severe blow with the loss of all its equipment and supplies, according to farmers market committee spokeswoman Rhonda Vigus.
Not only do we use the building as our on-site office during the market season, we also used it as our storage facility, Ms. Vigus said.
Losses still are being calculated, though a preliminary examination has shown the loss of tents, a new refrigerator/freezer, a stereo sound system, billboards, signage and banners, a new gas grill and two large new picnic tables.
There are still three months until the market season. Ms. Vigus said the committee will work hard to get ready for what will be the markets fourth season.
According to First Assistant Chief Jamie Pritchard of the Boonville Fire Department, the fire started somewhere in the southwest corner of the 2½-story white barn behind Nice N Easy at Main Street and Route 12. A passer-by discovered the fire and called 911 about 9:20 p.m. Monday.
