Clarkson jumps on Dartmouth in first for victory

HANOVER, N.H. — The Clarkson women’s hockey team recorded all of its scoring in the first period with three goals as it beat Dartmouth, 3-1, in an ECAC Hockey game Friday night.

Olivia Howe, Jamie Lee Rattray and Carly Mercer provided goals for the Golden Knights (25-8, 17-4), who are assured of at least a third-place finish. Erica Howe registered her 24th win of the year with 31 saves.

Laura Stacey had a power play goal for Dartmouth (15-8-5, 10-7-4), and Lindsay Holdcroft stopped 23 shots.

ST. LAWRENCE 2, HARVARD 2 (OT)

Kaitlin Spurling’s goal with 22 seconds left in the second period spurred the Crimson to a tie with the Saints in an ECAC game at Cambridge, Mass.

Sarah Edney also scored for Harvard (20-4-3, 16-2-2), which sits one point behind Cornell along with Clarkson for first in the conference. The Crimson plays Yale in a makeup game on Tuesday.

Kelly Sabatine and Kayla Raniwsky tallied for St. Lawrence (17-11-5, 12-5-4), and Carmen MacDonald turned away 35 shots.

UTICA 5, SUNY POTSDAM 1

Morgan Reed and Louise Steele-Norton both scored twice and added an assist as the fourth-seeded Pioneers downed the No. 5 Bears in the ECAC West quarterfinals at Utica.

Megan Myers scored once and had two assists for Utica (16-8-2).

Jessica Silveira netted a power-play goal for SUNY Potsdam (10-14-2).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

FINGER LAKES CC 82, JEFFERSON CC 59

Kelli McCauley poured in a game-high 30 points as the No. 2 Lakers captured a Mid-State Athletic Conference semifinal game with a victory over the No. 3 Cannoneers at Onondaga Community College.

Casi Strait scored 18 points, and Casey Dean added 15 points for Finger Lakes (18-11).

Jasmine Canady led JCC with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan Kiernan generated 12 points, and Tapulei Vaveao chipped in with 10 points for Jefferson CC (12-16), which led 36-29 at halftime.

SKIING

WEST, DURHAM IN TOP 20

St. Lawrence University seniors Ashley-Kate Durham and Ann West led the way with top 20 finishes in the giant slalom at NCAA Regional Championships in Lewiston, Maine.

Durham placed 15th with a combined time of 2:42.60 and West was 19th, helping the Saints to eight place in the women’s standings. Dartmouth sits in first place.

In the men’s competition, Jeremy Lawless was the top SLU finisher in the giant slalom with a 24th place showing.

SAINTS’ MENG FINISHES 19TH

Austin Meng’s push for a berth in the national championships continued with a 19th place finish in the men’s 10K classical race at the NCAA Regional Championships in Lewiston, Maine.

The sophomore clocked in with a time of 28:49.2, which led the Saints to a seventh place.

Senior Kelsey Nichols led the Saints in the women’s 5K Classic with a time of 16:30.2.

SQUASH

SLU FALLS TO TRINITY

Amr Khaled Khalifa posted the lone match victory for the eighth-ranked Saints as they fell to No. 1 and national powerhouse Trinity of Connecticut, 8-1, in the Potter Cup at New Haven, Conn.

Khalifa swept Reinhold Hergeth 11-1, 11-4, 13-11 for St. Lawrence, which will face Yale or Cornell in the consolation bracket today at noon.

SWIMMING

KETTRICK WINS MAAC TITLE

Aubrey Kettrick of Niagara University was awarded student-athlete of the week honors following her performances during the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship meet last weekend at Erie Community College in Buffalo.

The former Watertown standout won the 200-yard freestyle in a school-record time of 1 minute, 51.29 seconds to capture the college’s first women’s title since 2005. She also placed third in the 100 free, fifth in the 50 free and anchored the 800 free relay, which set a school record.

Kettrick, a senior, was also honored as an MAAC scholar athlete for the third season.
