CHAMPION Meadowbrook Terrace is open.
The 60-bed assisted-living facility at 21957 Cole Road has welcomed four residents since it opened Monday. Administrator Joseph W. Millard said the arrival of residents will remain slow, as he and other staff members take about 40 people through the admissions process.
Were the first in Jefferson County, he said. Its very exciting to finally be open. Theres so much work that goes into a project like this. Once its come to life, you have the opportunity to grow it. Every stage is exciting.
Meadowbrook Terrace was expected to open Feb. 1, but had to wait for its operating certificate from the state Department of Health.
Mr. Millard said all staff positions for the complex have been filled, but Meadowbrook Terrace will build staff as our census grows.
Its nice to start out slower so you can learn your process, he said.
Meadowbrook Terrace features 12 one-bedroom, 433-square-foot apartments for people who require more help than those who reside in the 48 322-square-foot studio apartments.
An ice cream parlor, store, lounge area, utility room, data room, activity room, chapel and employee work area are in the 42,000-square-foot, K-shaped facility. Therapy and assistance with daily living are available.
Mr. Millard said some people still dont understand the variety of services offered.
Itll be an ongoing conversation, he said.
The $9.5 million project received $9 million of the $34 million Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers grant.
Samaritan Medical Center was the lead agency on the grant and used its portion to help construct its own 288-bed skilled-nursing and assisted-living facility, which is expected to open this spring in Watertown.
Carthage Area Hospital put up the remaining $500,000 for its Meadowbrook Terrace project.
The project was designed by Nelson Associates, Clinton. Murnane Building Contractors, Whitesboro, is the general contractor.
The nearly 10-acre property was purchased by Carthage Area Hospital for $1,066,000. Mr. Millard said there is plenty of space for expansion if needed.
Meadowbrook Terrace is accepting new residents who are on Medicaid or who pay privately.
