CANTON — A Potsdam man was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a child.

State police charged David N. Russell, 63, with one count of first-degree sexual abuse: contact with a child under the age of 11, a class D felony, and one count of acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17, a class A misdemeanor.

The arrest stems from an incident in the town of Parishville that was reported to troopers Feb. 10. The child’s age and gender were not released.

Troopers said Thursday the case remains under investigation, and further details were not available.

He was committed to the St. Lawrence County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
