The North Country Arts Council will kick off its 2013 “Lucky Seven” lecture series with “The Art of Critique and Mind Mapping,” a presentation by educational consultant Mary Ellen Kalil Shevalier.

The event is 7 p.m. March 7 at Arts on the Square, 52 Public Square. Admission is $7.

In the presentation, audience members will learn the “art of critique” and walk away with the skills necessary for giving and receiving critiquing techniques.

In part two of Ms. Kalil Shevailier’s lecture, participants will learn the basis of “mind mapping” — a method of note taking, memorizing, “brain streaming” and goal setting designed to stimulate the mind and increase one’s potential.

Ms. Kalil Shevalier has 30 years teaching experience as an art educator in the public school system and has been in the forefront of educational reform. She has presented at numerous professional development venues.

She is co-author of “World Class, the Re-Education of America.” Her expertise as an art teacher and artist has allowed her to share the “art of critique” and “mind-mapping” to benefit teachers and students.

Her presentation will be the first of seven lectures on the arts that will take place on seven consecutive Thursdays beginning March 7.

To pre-register for this event, or for more information on the “Lucky Seven” lecture series, please visit or call 661-6361.

Other presenters and topics in the Lucky 7 series are to be announced.
