Sackets Harbor. Oliver Joseph Rose passed away February 18 at his home cared for by his loving wife Barb with the help of Hospice of Jefferson County.
He was born October 8, 1928 in Dexter, NY son of John and Tressa Favret Rose, Sr. He lived his whole life in the North Country. Graduated from Sackets Harbor High School in 1949. He served in United States Army 8th Infantry, Armor Tank Co. in Germany.
Oliver married Barbara Betts of N.Y C. and Richland, NY on October 5, 1957. He was a skilled machinist working 40 years for Carthage Machine Co. retiring in 1994. He then took up wood- working and for years had sailed his Tanzer 22 in the lake and river. He belonged to the Crescent Yacht Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the outdoors. He had traveled and camped from the Canadian Atlantic Maritime Provinces to Alaska and up and down the Eastern United States in his truck camper.
Besides his wife of 55 years he is survived by two daughters: Barbara- Ann (Donald) Bennett and Elizabeth (Anthony) Brais. seven grandsons, John (Jaclyn) Thomas, Daniel and Matthew Bennett. Anthony, Christopher and Sean Brais. His sister Sr. M. Kateri Rose SSJ and a niece and nephew Clare and Patrick Thornhill. He is predeased by his parents, his sister Agatha Jane (Howard) Thornhill, and a brother John Rose, Jr.
Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. There are no calling hours. The funeral will be held at United Presbyterian Church in Sackets Harbor on Saturday February 23rd at 2pm with a reception to follow. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to a charity of ones choice.
