POTSDAM SUNY Potsdam mens hockey player Brett Waters was named SUNYAC player of the week after helping the Bears into the playoffs.
The senior captain scored the game-winning goal in Potsdams 2-1 over SUNY Cortland on Saturday night. Waters, a defenseman, has two goals and eight assists for a career-high 10 points.
The Bears, the sixth seed, will travel to No. 3 SUNY Geneseo to take on the Ice Knights on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the first round.
■ SUNY Potsdam womens hockey players Jen Conophy and Sarah Nelson were honored by the ECAC West Conference for the roles in clinching the Bears a playoff spot.
Conophy, a senior, was named goalie of the week after earning a pair of win over Buffalo State, including a 1-0 shutout on Sunday. Nelson got the rookie of the week award after assisting on the game-winning goal in the Bears 4-3 victory on Sunday. Fifth-seeed SUNY Potsdam will travel to No. 4 Utica on Friday at 7 p.m. for a first-round game.
