The American Red Cross of Northern New York will host a baby sitter training class for youths ages 11 to 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at its offices at 203 N. Hamilton St., Watertown, and at the Potsdam Civic Center, 2 Park St.

Participants will learn confidence to hold, feed and care for infants and toddlers and how to work with children safely and deal with emergencies. They will receive take-home training materials and discuss how to choose age-appropriate games and toys, handle bedtime and disciplinary issues, identify safety hazards and prevent injuries, communicate effectively with parents and find and interview for baby-sitting jobs.

The class fee is $85. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch.
