CANTON — Opt-out NY SAFE Act forms for pistol permit holders who do not want their information to become public by a Freedom of Information Law request will be available on the St. Lawrence County website under the county clerk tab “NY SAFE Act,” which links to a state police site, and at the county’s four Department of Motor Vehicles offices.

According to provisions of the law, pistol permit holders will have 60 days after the forms are made available by state police to submit completed forms to the clerk’s office. If not done, the pistol permit holder’s information will be public under the state’s FOIL.

Completed forms should be mailed to St. Lawrence County Clerk, c/o Pistol Permit Office, 48 Court St., Canton, N.Y. 13617. For more information on the opt-out provision, call the clerk’s office at 379-2237.
