Frontier League champions Carthage (Class A), South Jefferson (B) and Beaver River (C-1) received No. 1 seeds for the 2013 Section 3 boys basketball tournament on Thursday.
All three teams received first-round byes and will open play with quarterfinal home games on Tuesday.
Carthage (17-1) will play host to either No. 9 East Syracuse-Minoa (8-10) or No. 8 Oneida (8-10) in the quarterfinals. Those two teams play a first-round game today in Oneida.
South Jefferson (17-1) drew the No. 9 Phoenix (11-7) at No. 8 Bishop Grimes (11-7) winner in Tuesdays Class B quarterfinals in Adams.
Beaver River (17-1), last years Class C runner-up, awaits the winner of No. 9 Herkimer (6-12) and No. 8 South Lewis (9-9) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday in Beaver Falls. South Lewis will host the first-round game tonight in Turin.
Six other Frontier League teams qualified, including No. 3 Thousand Islands (Class C-1) and No. 5 Lyme (Class D).
Thousand Islands (13-5) is home against No. 6 Pulaski (9-9) in Tuesdays C-1 quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
Lyme (14-4) hosts No. 12 Madison (10-8) in a Class D first-round game at 6 p.m. Saturday in Chaumont.
Also, Indian River (13-5) is seeded sixth in Class A and will host a first-round game at 6 p.m. today against No. 11 Fowler (5-11).
In other Class D first-round games Saturday, No. 6 Sackets Harbor (12-6) is home vs. No. 11 Blessed Virgin Mary (10-8) at 7 p.m., and No. 15 Copenhagen (6-11) travels to No. 2 New York Mills (15-3) at 7 p.m.
Semifinals are scheduled for next weekend, with the Class C-1 and C-2 finals slated for Feb. 26-27. All five class finals will be played on Sunday, March 3 at the Carrier Dome.
