David W. Evans, 44, of 545 Cross St., was charged Thursday by city police with second-degree criminal contempt, and is due to appear in City Court.

Police said he is accused of violating terms of a Family Court order of protection late Thursday morning by sending text messages to his estranged wife, Brenda L. Evans, Watertown.

Last August, he pleaded guilty in City Court to harassment, reduced from criminal contempt, for sending text messages to Mrs. Evans, and was assessed a fine and court fees totaling $220.
