POTSDAM Corson Green scored with 17 seconds left in the second period to give the Potsdam hockey team the lead for good as the Sandstoners won the Northern Athletic Conference Division I championship with a 4-2 win over the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils on Tuesday night.
OFA (10-6-4 overall, 9-3-2 division) had a chance to win Division II with a victory or clinch the top seed in the upcoming Section 10 playoffs with a tie. St. Lawrence Central, instead, clinched the division.
The Blue Devils took an early lead when Jared Barr scored at 8 minutes, 49 seconds of the first period. Robbie Scott answered with two goals for Potsdam (14-6, 10-2) at 13:37 of the first period and 8:02 of the second to give the Sandstoners a 2-1 lead.
John Taylor tied the game at 2-2 for OFA with a goal at 13:15 of the second. Trevor Keleher added another goal for Potsdam at 2:40 of the third period.
MALONE 2, TUPPER LAKE 0
Tanner Studlack scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Huskies past the Lumberjacks (1-17-1, 0-14) in a Division II game in Malone.
Cameron Daniels also scored for Malone (9-10-1, 4-9-1).
LISBON 52, COLTON-PIERREPONT 32
Jackie Sovie scored 20 points as the No. 8 Golden Knights (8-10) defeated No. 9 Colton-Pierrepont in a Section 10 Class D first round game in Lisbon.
Lisbon will play top-seeded Madrid-Waddington at 7:45 p.m. Friday in a quarterfinal at Massena High School.
Beth Crowley added 15 points for Lisbon. Morgan Doyle scored 22 points for the Colts (7-12).
HARRISVILLE 61, EDWARDS-KNOX 36
Kathleen Coloney led the No. 7 Pirates (9-9) with 21 points in a win over the No. 10 Cougars in a Class D first round game in Harrisville. Harrisville will play No. 2 Hammond at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Potsdam High school in a quarterfinal.
Chelsea Pierce scored 17 points for Harrisville. Jadilynn Bullock scored 13 points for the Cougars (2-16), and Kali Sharpstene added 10.
HERMON-DEKALB 69, PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 31
Courtney Harrington scored 20 points as the No. 6 Demons (11-8) sailed past the No. 11 Panthers in a Class D first round game in DeKalb Junction.
The Demons will play No. 3 Chateaugay in a quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Potsdam High School.
Bridget Rust scored 19 points and Clarissa Davis added 17 for the Demons. Kodi Perkins scored seven points for the Panthers (2-12).
CLIFTON-FINE 68, MORRISTOWN 13
Morgan Skeldon scored 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, along with six blocked shots and five steals to lead the No. 4 Eagles past the No. 13 Green Rockets (0-17) in a Class D first round game at Star Lake.
Hunter Hitchman scored 21 points with 11 steals, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Eagles (15-4), who will face No. 5 Heuvelton in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Friday at Massena High School.
Alexis Pomerville added 14 points for the Eagles.
HEUVELTON 70, ST. REGIS FALLS 38
Logan Tallman led the Bulldogs (13-6) with 13 points in a victory over the No. 12 Saints in a Class D first round game in Heuvelton.
Olivia St. Pierre scored 11 points and Lexi Weidner added 10 for Heuvelton.
Brittany Rondeau led the Saints (1-13) with 12 points and Kaitlyn White added 10.
BRUSHTON-MOIRA 40, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 34
Caitlyn LaPaige scored nine points for the No. 4 Panthers (7-10) in a Class C first round win over the No. 5 Flyers in Brushton.
The Panthers will travel to play No. 1 Canton in a semifinal at 6 p.m. Thursday. Ayanna Mason led the Flyers (3-15) with 12 points.
EAST SYRACUSE-MINOA 3, CARTHAGE 2
Rachael Aird recorded 24 kills, six aces, three blocks and 10 digs as the top-seeded Spartans claimed a 25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 14-25, 25-18 Section 3 Class A semifinal victory over the No. 4 Comets at Chittenango.
Kaitlyn Shaughnessy distributed 33 assists, and Safira Lubenovic hit 11 kills and three aces for East Syracuse-Minoa (18-1).
Carthage finished its season at 14-5.
TULLY 3, SOUTH LEWIS 1
Caitlin Noonan accounted for 23 kills and two blocks to help the top-seeded Black Knights scrape by with a 30-28, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21 Class C-1 victory over the No. 4 Falcons at Chittenango.
Abbie Reed handed out 47 assists, while Allison Hughes and Allison Bolt hit 13 and seven kills, respectively, for Tully (19-1).
South Lewis is 15-6.
