N-N, C-P, P-H girls basketball teams drop Section 10 playoff openers

The opening round of the Section 10 playoffs marked the end of the 2012-13 season for the Norwood-Norfolk, Colton-Pierrepont and Parishville-Hopkinton girls basketball teams on Tuesday.

CLASS C

Brushton-Moira advanced to the semi-final round of the Class C Tournament with a 40-34 win over N-N. The Panthers (7-10) face No. 1 seed Canton on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in Canton.

B-M took a 18-12 at halftime with a 13-4 second quarter run. Caitlyn LaPaige scored nine points and Mackenize King and Danielle Trimm each tallied eight points leading a balanced effort which also saw Miada McCarthy scored seven.

CLASS D

In the Class D openers, Lisbon outscored C-P 52-32, Hermon-DeKalb beat P-H 69-31, Heuvelton halted St. Regis Falls 70-38, Harrisville stopped Edwards-Knox 61-36 and Clifton-Fine overpowered 68-13.

Lisbon 52, C-P 32: At Lisbon, a stingy 2-2-1 press created some early problems for the Colts and Lisbon (8-10) took charge with a 19-8 first quarter leadn and a 28-10 halftime advantage.

Jackie Sovie delivered 20 points for the Knights while Beth Crowley added 15. Alex Amo addedeight while Emily Dishaw provided seven. Gabby Walker did a solid job running the point.

Morgan Doyle scored 22 points for C-P (7-12). Kylie McKinley hit three three-pointers for nine points. Eve Whalen chipped in a free throw.

H-D 69, P-H 31: At DeKalb Junction, a 25-8 third quarter sealed the win for the Demons who led 32-17 at halftime. Courtney Harrington worked inside the paint for 20 points and Bridget Rust delivered four three’s in a 19 point effort for Hermon-DeKalb (11-8). Clarissa Davis added 17 including three three’s.

Kodi Perkins scored seven, Brianna Hayes tallied six and Nicole White chipped in five for the Panthers (2-13). Jen Converse and McGregor each logged four.

Heuvelton 70, SRF 38: Lexi Weidner scored eight of her 10 points sparking the Bulldogs (13-6) out to a 23-6 first quarter lead and was one of eight Bulldogs to eventually score six points or more. Logan Tallman (3 steals) scored a game-high 13 points and Olivia St. Pierre (5 steals, 4 rebounds) netted 11 points. Kylie Piercey (6 rebounds) tallied eight points and Ashlyn Piercey and Rachel Thornhill each tallied seven. Maddie St. Pierre (7 rebounds) finished with six points and Hannah Thornhill passed out four assists. The trio of Brittany Rondeau (12 points, 5 rebounds), Kaitlyn White (10 points, 4 assists) and Jenna Susice (7 points) led the Saints (1-12).

Harrisville 61, E-K 36: At Harrisville, Kathleen Coloney pumped in 21 points and posted six rebounds and Chelsea Pierce added 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds leading Pirates (9-9) past the Cougars (2-16). Georgi Baker and Hannah Weaver each scored seven more for the winners.

Jadilynn Bullock tallied 13 points ffor E-K. Kali Sharpstene added 10.

C-F 68, Morristown 13: At Star Lake, Morgan Skeldon worked the paint to score 26 points to go with 19 rebounds, five steals, six blocks, and two assists leading the Eagles (15-4) past Morristown (0-19). Hunter Hitchman tallied 21 points, 11 steals, eight rebounds and eight assists while Alexis Pomerville added 14 points, six boards, three steals and three assists.

Bailey Holmes scored five and Mackenzie Barse added four for MCS.
