POTSDAM - SUNY Potsdams Crane School of Music will host international guest artists, the Percussions Claviers de Lyon, for a unique concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.
The French quintet will present an introduction to the world of percussion in this concert/lecture. The musical conference will give the audience a chance to learn more about percussion instruments and the repertoire of the Percussions Claviers de Lyon.
In both lively and historical ways, this performance will present the three decades of repertoire and musical specificities of the group, from its creation to the present.
The Percussions Claviers de Lyon concert will include selections of works by Claude Debussy, François Narboni and Thierry Pécou.
This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
The Percussions Claviers de Lyon consists of Raphaël Aggery, Sylvie Aubelle, Jérémy Daillet, Gilles Dumoulin and Gérard Lecointe, who is also the artistic director. The Percussions Claviers de Lyon was founded in 1983-the beginning of the extraordinary musical adventure of five talented and creative keyboard percussionists. The unique quintet has been producing an innovative new repertoire for their instruments for more than 25 years.
Performing on marimbas, vibraphones and xylophones, these five brilliant musicians constantly strive for musical excellence, reaching out to their audiences with original performances of pieces from their musical heritage and multidisciplinary shows, as well as works by contemporary composers.
The result-an eclectic repertoire of transcriptions and new works composed especially for the group.
From Lyon, France to Beijing, China, from continent to continent, the Percussions Claviers de Lyon have surprised audiences with their spirited rhythms and subtle melodies, with their interpretations of Debussy, Ravel and Bernstein, as well as exciting new pieces for percussion.
The Percussions Claviers de Lyon is funded by the Ministry of Culture through the DRAC Rhône-Alpes, the Rhône-Alpes region and by the City of Lyon. The ensemble is also supported by SPEDIDAM, SACEM, Institut Français and Bureau Export, and is a member of FEVIS and PROFEDIM.
