HEUVELTON - Junior guard Hunter Hitchman drove to the basket, dished off assists and converted some unbalanced shots on Wednesday en rout to a 42-point effort for Clifton-Fine in a 76-71 overtime win at Heuvelton in NAC West Division play.
Hitchman hit six threes and went 8-for-12 at the line while collecting seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
Hunter really took the game into her own hands tonight. She scored 10 of our 12 in overtime and Heuvelton really played good defense on her with Alexis Weidner and Logan Tallman. This was a big for us on the road. Heuvelton is a good team and I know we havent seen the last of them, said C-F coach Rick Hitchman whose team improved to 13-3 overall, 9-3 in West Division play with games against Edwards-Knox and Hammond remaining.
Morgan Skeldon pulled down 13 second-half rebounds and 20 in the contest to help her score 23 points. She also had four blocks, two steals, and two assists. Delaney Kerr added six points, 12 rebounds, two steals and two assists while Alexis Pomerville supplied five rebounds, six rebounds, four blocks, four steals and two assists. Ali Hitchman chipped in four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
For Heuvelton (12-5, 10-3), which plays Hammond tonight, Maddie St. Pierre tallied 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Olivia St. Pierre tallied 16 points and seven boards. Alexis Weidner chipped in 16 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Hannah Thornhill had four assists while Logan Tallman chipped in three steals, three rebounds and three points.
We didnt play with a lot of composure in the first half but we did in the second half. Hunter (Hitchman) just took over the game especially in overtime, said Heuvelton coach Rob Powers.
In other action, Edwards-Knox earned its second win of the season denying Morristown 54-33.
Edwards-Knox 54, Morristown 33: Kali Sharpstene tossed in three three-pointers and went 7-10 from the foulline enroute to a 20 point performance leading the Cougars who broke open a 20-13 halftime lead with a 19-4 third quarter. Katie Smith added 17 points.
Jordyn Tulley paced Morristown with 12 points. Karissa Bertrand netted seven while Erica Baldwin added six.
C-P 35, SRF 21: Andrea Aldous netted a game-high 14 points as the Lady Colts broke away from a 15-15 tie after three quarters with a 20-6 fourth-quarter outburst to come away with the win. Morgan Doyle added eight points. Brittany Rondeau netted 11 points in the losing cause.
Salmon River 65, Parishville-Hopkinton 34: The Shamrocks improved to 13-4 on the season. The Panthers fell to 2-11.
RANKING NOTE: The depth of Section 10 Class D basketball is recognized is weeks state rankings. In Class D Hammond (15-1) stands sixth, Madrid-Waddington (15-1) 12th, Chateaugay (14th) 13th and Clifton-Fine (13-3) and Heuvelton (12-5) are tied for 20th.
