LOWVILLE — Two Utica men already jailed for allegedly stealing razors from Walmart on Route 12 now have been accused of conspiring to steal more than $2,000 worth of DVDs from the store.

John N. Makuch, 63, and Nathaniel Walker III, 39, both were charged Wednesday by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies with fourth-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy. Mr. Makuch also was charged with third-degree burglary, as he had been banned from Walmart property based on a prior shoplifting conviction, deputies said.

Both men were arraigned in Lowville Town Court and returned to Lewis County jail without bail.

The arrests stemmed from an investigation into an alleged shoplifting incident on Jan. 15, deputies said.

Mr. Makuch and Mr. Walker were arrested Jan. 25 when troopers responded to the report of a disabled vehicle on Route 12 in the town of Remsen and allegedly found hypodermic needles and more than $2,000 worth of Gillette Fusion razors taken from the Lowville Walmart in their vehicle. They both were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny at the time, while Mr. Walker also was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
