A Syracuse man was being held Monday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building after state police said he stole a vehicle at the Royal Inn, routes 37 and 342 in the town of Pamelia.
Joshua C. Cage, 33, is charged by troopers with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, heroin, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. A Jefferson County deputy sheriff, who initially detained him Sunday morning on Interstate 81 in the town of Ellisburg, additionally charged him with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving an uninspected vehicle.
Mr. Cage also is wanted in Onondaga County Court on another count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the sheriffs department.
Town of LeRay Justice George E. Mead III set bail at $25,000.
Mr. Cage is accused of driving away from the motel in a 2003 Ford Explorer with his companion, Jessica Morrow, Syracuse, prior to 5:20 a.m. Sunday without the permission of the vehicle owner, according to police. The deputy halted him, based on the state police auto theft report, at about 7 a.m.
