FORT DRUM — A photo from a former public affairs photographer from post will be featured during the Super Bowl, according to the post’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

The photo, taken by Sgt. Jamie DeLeon, now retired, depicts a dog handler, only identified as Spc. Chavez, carrying his service dog on the runway at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield.

The soldier, listed as a member of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, was returning from deployment in Afghanistan.

The photo will reportedly be used for a “CBS Cares” public service announcement during the game.

Sgt. DeLeon, who now lives in California was not available for comment.

An attempt to contact the pictured soldier through Fort Wainwright’s public affairs office was unsuccessful.
