LOWVILLE – Shirley E. Roy, 80, passed away on Tuesday evening, January 29, 2013, at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where she had resided for a short time.

Born in Martinsburg on March 29, 1932, to the late Milfred and Dorothy M. Edick Rhone, Shirley attended various country schools and in 1949, graduated from General Martin High School. She lived in both the Glenfield and Lowville area all her life.

Shirley was employed by Kraft Foods for 25 years and in her retirement was a caregiver for several families at Brookside Senior Living Center. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church until 1963, prior to becoming a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville. She was also an active member with the VFW Auxiliary and a Lewis County Hospice volunteer. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed gardening and taking a drive up on Tug Hill.

Surviving Shirley are her children and their spouses: Dennis J. Roy, Jr. and Linda of Lowville and children, Joanna and Brad Allen, Dennis Phillip and Matthew John; Anthony M. “Tony” and Suzanne, Lowville and his two children, Sarah and Steven Roy; Michelle and Ron Gingerich of Watson and their children, Amos and Connie and Alicia Gingerich; Melissa and Mike Bush, New Bremen and their two children, Marcus and Melinda Bush; five great-grandchildren; Antonio Ruiz, Kendyl and Case Allen, Evangeline and Edward Gingerich; one sister, Margaret Tuttle and three brothers, Herbert, Harold and Harvey Rhone.

Shirley is predeceased by her two sons, Mark and Martin and brother Willard Rhone.

A funeral mass will be said on Friday, February 1st at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Carrara officiating. Burial will take place in the spring. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home.
