A town of Watertown man faces charges that he lied to city police about the location of a suspect in a crime.
Joseph R. Sawyer, 24, of 27219 Route 12S, was charged at 4 p.m. Wednesday with first-degree falsifying business records and making a punishable false written statement.
Police said that on Jan. 13 he provided false information about the whereabouts of Andrew A. Wren, 24, of 324 Academy St., who was suspected of driving without a drivers license, in an attempt to conceal the commission of a crime. He is due to answer the charges in City Court.
Mr. Wren was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of a property-damage accident and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was charged Dec. 24 with driving while intoxicated after allegedly being involved in a one-vehicle accident on Gotham Street.
