POTSDAM - The St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund recently awarded a $9,100 grant to Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation for the hospitals Center for Cancer Care.
This years grant will be used for gas and maintenance for the van that transports cancer treatment patients to and from their appointments. Last year the Hospitals van logged more than 25,000 miles transporting patients.
A portion of the grant will be used for educational and supportive materials for patients contemplating, startin, or undergoing treatment for cancer. Patients are increasingly interested in learning about lifestyle choices to optimize recovery and minimize recurrence, noted Director of Oncology Services Jacqueline Dow. We need additional materials for them to explore those topics. Our fill in the blank cancer navigation notebooks have also proven to be very popular with our patients and their family members, and we need to replenish supplies each year.
Over the years, the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund, whose primary fund-raiser is the Edward I. Moses Walk/Run for Life, has contributed nearly $140,000 to Canton-Potsdam Hospitals Cancer Services. We are so grateful for this generous support, Dow noted. Our thanks to everyone who participates in the Edward I. Moses Walk/Run.
