ALBANY — State Sen. Joseph A. Griffo has been selected Banks Committee chairman for 2013.

Mr. Griffo, R-Rome, was chosen by the Senate’s majority coalition, according to a released statement from the senator’s office.

The Banks Committee oversees legislation regarding state banks, mortgage brokers, mortgage bankers, check cashers, money transmitters, budget planners, credit unions and other financial service providers.

Mr. Griffo has also been named to the Finance Committee.

He is also to hold posts on the following committees: Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business; Crime Victims, Crime and Correction; Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation; Energy and Telecommunications; Higher Education; Racing, Gaming and Wagering; and Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs.
