DEKALB JUNCTION - For the size of Hermon-DeKalb Central School, having one athlete participate at the next level shows that program is headed in the right direction.

Well, the Green Demons Girls Basketball Program has been extremely successful the past few years and this winter, three of Coach Steve Morrill’s former players are plying their skills in the NJCAA and NCAA Division III basketball ranks.

Class of 2011’s Rochelle Whitton and Class of 2012’s tandem Brianna Sayer and Jocelyn Moulton are currently playing as freshman at colleges in New York State.

“I’m very blessed to have three of my former players at the next level,” said Coach Morrill.

“All three have been successfull at Hermon-DeKalb and all three have really helped us turn the program around.”

Whitton attended school at Alfred during the 2011-12 academic year and planned on joining the Albany College of Pharmacy and Science during the 2012-13 season. ACPS has four Section 10 players on the team including Malone’s Alyson Johnson and Kelsey Johnson and Massena’s Kristen McKeel.

The former point guard/two guard at Hermon-DeKalb has appeared in 13 games averaging 13 minutes. She averages 3.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Sayer has started 15 of SUNY Canton’s 18 games averaging 5.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She has added 19 assists and 20 steals on the season.

Moulton has only appeared in three games for Cayuga Community College this winter because of an injury.
