CARTHAGE — Joan Duffer, 70, 23259 Boyd Rd., died Monday morning, January 28th, 2013 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where she had been a patient for a short time.
Born in Carthage on June 23, 1942, the daughter of Burton & Gladys Dimick Egnew, she graduated from Carthage Central High School. Until very recently, she was employed in a clerical position for Central Services Bureau in Watertown. She married Robert Duffer at home in West Carthage on August 27, 1960, with the Rev. Frederick Wood officiating. She was very family oriented and was a long time member of the United Community Church in Carthage, where she served as a Deacon and Trustee. She also taught Sunday School.
Mrs. Duffer is survived by her husband, Robert, at home; her son, Robert Duffer, Jr., West Carthage; her daughter, Joedi Hallenbeck, West Carthage; her sister, Kay Ashcroft, Carthage and her brothers, Keith Egnew, Oswego and Peter Egnew, Lyons Falls. Also surviving are two grandchildren, James Robert Duffer and William Hallenbeck III.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 31st at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with the Rev. Jane Wagner, Pastor of the United Community Church, officiating. There will be no public calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage.
