The Gateway Plaza, 981 Ford St. Extension, could have a new tenant soon.

An official with the plaza’s owner, Nigro Companies Inc., Albany, said Wednesday that Nigro is currently in discussions with several tenants interested in occupying a commercial space previously rented by Fashion Bug, a low-priced women’s clothing chain.

The Ogdensburg store’s last day open was Monday.

Fashion Bug stores in Ogdensburg and Massena’s Harte Haven Shopping Center announced their closings after a corporate buyout in June of Lane Bryant, owner Charming Shoppes Inc., by the Ascena Retail Groups. According to its website, Charming Shoppes will be closing approximately 600 of its remaining stores scattered across the U.S. in 43 states.

Both the Massena and Ogdensburg stores were in business for nearly 25 years.

Gateway Plaza consists of 250,000 total square feet of retail space, including a 146,000-square-foot Lowe’s home improvement store. Fashion Bug, which sits between Price Chopper and Rent-A-Center, occupied over 9,000 square feet of space in the plaza.

Nigro Vice President Steven J. Powers said the space could be divided for three possible tenants.

“Ideally we would like to fill the whole space, but that is not always possible.”

The real estate development company, which owns and operates several commercial properties across the state, said it could reach an agreement with at least one potential tenant as early as next week.

“We can’t say which one yet,” Mr. Powers said. “We’re trying to make the deals work.”
