GOUVERNEUR — Dr. Edward L. Reason was named a finalist for the 2012 Country Doctor of the Year Award presented by Staff Care.

According to a released statement from the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, the national award is presented each December to a physician “who best exemplifies the spirit, skill and dedication of America’s rural medical practitioners.”

Dr. Reason was not selected for the award.

“It really came as a surprise to me when I found out that I was a finalist for the Country Doctor of the Year Award,” he said. “I didn’t even know I was in the running.”

He sees many patients in his office on West Barney Street and even makes house calls. He also recently upgraded his practice to include electronic health records.

Dr. Reason cares for about 5,000 patients annually.
