RESISTING ARREST - MASSENA - Village police charged Catherine A. Berry, 17, of 66 Liberty Ave., Massena, with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following an incident Thursday morning on Stearns Street.

Police responded to the SeaComm parking lot on Stearns Street at 10:12 a.m. Friday after receiving a report an apparently intoxicated female was in the lot shouting obscenities and acting disorderly. Police said they were unsuccessful in convincing Berry to change her behavior, and she started to run away from officers when she was being informed she was being charged with disorderly conduct. She was taken into custody after a short foot chase on Stearns Street. Police said the teenager struggled when they were handcuffing her and also resisted their efforts to place her in a patrol car. She was scheduled to appear for arraignment before Acting Massena Village Justice James M. Crandall, but the judge adjourned the arraignment until Friday and sent Berry to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond after she reportedly struck and kicked a village police officer when she in the holding area outside the courtroom waiting for her arraignment. Mr. Crandall also noted he was adjourning arraignment because it appeared Berry was intoxicated late Thursday afternoon.
