Michael J. Farrell was named Monday as provisional chief of the Ogdensburg Fire Department, effective Feb. 5 when Chief Steven M. Badlam retires, according to City Manager John M. Pinkerton

Mr. Farrell, a 16-year veteran of the department, is currently an assistant chief with the department, a position he has held since December 2011.

The department has four assistant chiefs.

Mr. Badlam has been chief since August 2007. He joined the fire department in January 2004.

A Civil Service test for fire chief will be given in January 2014.
