A Glen Park man was jailed early Monday for allegedly choking a deputy sheriff who was interceding in a domestic fight, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

John C. Carr, 37, of 618 Pine St., was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, resisting arrest and harassment. Brownville Town Justice Richard M. Parker set bail at $250, sending him to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

Deputy Jeffrey M. Froelich was sent about 2:50 a.m. to the Carr residence for a domestic fight, and was greeted outdoors by a woman who said she wanted to remove some of her belongings from the house and leave. The deputy said he went to the front door with the woman, who was not identified, and Mr. Carr attempted to close the door on them. After the deputy prevented the door from closing, Mr. Carr “raised his right hand and placed it on my neck and throat area and applied a little pressure,” Deputy Froelich said.

After Mr. Carr resisted being handcuffed, he was forced to the floor and was restrained.
