This photo appeared in the Times Farm and Garden supplement of Jan. 17, 1948, in an article titled Furs for Fashion from a North Farm The Youngs Raise Mink on Their Small Farm Near Copenhagen and Find They Earn a Goodly Profit. In the photo, Marion Young of Route 2, Copenhagen, holds a natural color mink; her husband, Uhlan L. Young, holds a Silver Blu mutation produced by selective breeding. At the time, mink pelts were worth upwards of $20 each. The article notes that 100 or more pelts would be needed to make a full-length coat.
