REDWOOD — William D. Boyer, 57, of 43630 Stine Road, is ordered to appear in Alexandria Town Court to answer to charges in connection with the death of his black Labrador retriever.

Mr. Boyer is charged with cruelty to animals and a conservation law count of illegal disposal of garbage.

Police said a witness reported on the night of Jan. 8 that Mr. Boyer was seen kicking the dog outside his house, and yelling at the dog. When a trooper responded to the Boyer residence, the dog was not there, police said. A search was conducted, and the animal’s carcass was found during the night alongside Cottage Hill Road, police said.

An autopsy was conducted, and the dog was found to have suffered internal bleeding, police said.
