Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, was appointed to the Defense and Homeland Security subcommittees of the House Appropriations Committee, according to a released statement from his office Wednesday.

The Defense Subcommittee has jurisdiction over spending for the Department of the Army, Navy, Air Force, the Office of Secretary of Defense, various Defense agencies and the intelligence community, while the Homeland Security subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security along with Customs and Border Patrol.
