POTSDAM For the second time this season, Dawna Salvarinas of the SUNY Potsdam womens hockey team has been named the Goalie of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference West.
Salvarinas saved 71 of 74 shots in two starts last week. The junior made 36 stops in a 4-1 victory over Castleton State and 35 saves in a 2-0 loss to Utica.
In nine games this year, Salvarinas has a 5-3 record with a .917 save percentage. Her five wins and two shutouts are career highs.
■ Former SUNY Potsdam All-American mens lacrosse player Rashaun Durden will work as an assistant coach with the Bears this season. Durden graduated last May and played in 52 games for the Bears. He was captain of the team two years and three times was an All-SUNYAC selection and was the 2011 SUNYAC Player of the Year.
