LOWVILLE Excitement following an early and deep snow at Maple Ridge Center has melted into disappointment as weekend temperatures destroyed the snow cover, canceling WinterXcape festival this Saturday.
I cant believe it, said Executive Director Keith Zehr, We had 30 inches of snow. Its all gone. Its green.
Lack of snow called off the event last year, as well. Rescheduling the event in its entirety is not possible, though portions are planned to take place when snow allows.
People are already working on their cardboard sleds, said Mr. Zehr. The center plans to host those sled races, provide equipment for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing and offer reduced-price tubing at a later date, as the weather permits.
