LOWVILLE Lewis County sheriffs deputies on Wednesday charged a Glenfield man with stealing another persons wallet at Walmart, Route 12, after he returned to the scene of the alleged crime.
Charged with petit larceny was Richard J. Gasque, 43, of 6015 Main St. He is to answer the charge in Lowville Town Court.
Mr. Gasque was accused of taking another customers wallet that had been placed on the customer service desk, then leaving the store and pocketing $80 in it.
Deputies said surveillance footage showed a man taking the wallet, and they were still on the scene when a store employee tipped them off that the suspect had returned and was standing in one of the checkout lines. He admitted to taking the wallet, then going to Kinney Drugs, Utica Boulevard, and throwing it in a garbage can there, deputies said.
It was discovered there, with the cash missing, they said.
