Several local teens are among a group of 21 students nominated for military service academies by Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, according to a released statement issued Monday afternoon.
Nominated to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point are Matthew Whitcomb, Massena; Christopher Shelmidine, Lorraine; Nicholas Tyler, Adams; Brandon Lloyd and Damon Draught, Watertown; and Sarah-Maria Choong, Potsdam.
Nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., are Gunnar Blank, Clayton, and Jordan Hart and Matthew Whitcomb, both of Massena.
Nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., are Elizabeth Kolodgy, Philadelphia, and Christopher Shelmidine, Lorraine.
A member of Congress may nominate students to attend an academy if the students meet eligibility requirements and submit a detailed application.
