I think it is too bad that some politicians in Washington are looking to make changes to Medicare and Social Security as part of a budget deal. These programs are too important to New Yorkers to be part of the discussion.
The president and Congress need to protect these programs for todays retirees and for future generations. In a bad economy, it is more important to keep these programs strong.
Proposals like changing the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security or raising the Medicare age would hurt all these programs.
These programs should not be used as part of a last minute deal.
