A womans claim Sunday evening that she was raped led to her eventual arrest and incarceration on a prostitution charge, according to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department.
The alleged john also was charged.
Ashley I. Baker, 25, Keeseville, is charged with prostitution and falsely reporting an incident. LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III set bail at $1,000, sending her to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.
Kirk R. Guyette, 30, Room 115, EconoLodge, 19325 Route 11, town of LeRay, is charged with patronizing a prostitute and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was released without bail to await arraignment in LeRay Town Court.
The charges of prostitution and patronizing a prostitute are misdemeanors.
Documents released by the sheriffs office indicate that Mrs. Baker called 911 at 6:54 p.m. to report that she had been raped and was being chased by a man armed with a gun. Deputies subsequently interviewed Mr. Guyette and learned from him that he had paid the woman $300 for a prostitution arrangement about 3 p.m. in his motel room, according to the documents.
Mrs. Bakers claim about an armed man chasing her was not substantiated, and Mr. Guyette was not charged with weapon possession. Since he is a convicted felon, a weapon charged would have been filed had the claim been true. He pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Court in May 2011 to fourth-degree grand larceny, and later that year was sentenced to jail time for violating probation given him for the conviction.
