■ The Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County announced that Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa, and Kinney Drugs have collected 1,742 books for children of low-income families.

■ The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development office will hold a meeting to explain its Community Facilities program, which offers loans and grants to develop essential community facilities, from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Jules Center amphitheater at Jefferson Community College.
