CARTHAGE The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg and its Ecumenical Commission will hold a prayer service at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at St. James Church, State Street.
The event, sponsored by the Village Ecumenical Ministries and St. James Church, will be held in conjunction with the World Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Jan. 18 through 25. This years theme is What Does God Require of Us?
The weeklong prayer observance began in 1908 to allow Christians worldwide to share the prayer of Jesus.
The service is open to all Christians and all people of good will, said the Rev. Daniel L. Chapin, the events organizer.
Bishop Terry R. LaValley will be present. The Rev. Linda J. Harris, pastor of the United Methodist Church Three River Valley Parish, will preach on the theme. The service will include a combined choir of Carthage-area churches under the direction of Michael Perfetto, St. James choir director.
Following the service, there will be a reception at Augustinian Academy next to the church.
