Kenneth “John” Daily, 72 of St. Lawrence Park Rd., Alexandria Bay, died early Thursday morning at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, where he had been a patient since December 5th, 2012.

John was born on September 10, 1940 in Cincinnatus, NY, the son of James A. and Miriam Bourkle Daily. He was educated in Syracuse schools. He married Dorothy “Jane” Stoner on October 24, 1959 in Syracuse.

John was the owner of the Alex Bay Big M Supermarket since 1973. He was very active in the community, being honored with the Citizen of the Year Award in 1996 for his humble, yet generous contributions over many years. He had coached Little League Baseball, was a former member of the Board of Education for Alexandria Bay Central School, and was an active member of the Alexandria Bay Rotary Club, being honored with the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow award. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially cherished his time spent with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Jane, of 52 years; two sons and their wives, Kenneth John Jr., and Arlene, Alexandria Bay, and Richard Wilson and Teresa, Plessis; one daughter and her husband, Diane and Brian Willix, Plessis; grandchildren, Maloree, Ciera, Chelsee, Chad and Cassidy Daily, and Conner and Rylie Willix. Also, two brothers, James (Marilyn) Daily, Champlain, NY; Donald (Marge) Daily, Syracuse, NY; and three sisters, Mrs. Rex (Betty) Buker, Clayton, NY, Sally Case, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Barbara Smith, Liverpool, NY. A brother, William Daily, and a sister, Jeanette Bargelski, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 6th at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am at the Reformed Church of the 1000 Isles. Burial will follow at Barnes Settlement Cemetery.
