CANTON Rylee Smith notched a pair of goals as the St. Lawrence womens hockey team blanked ninth-ranked Northeastern, 6-0, in a nonconference matchup at Appleton Arena on Thursday night.
The Saints (11-7-1) used a three-goal third period to put the game out of reach. Brooke Fernandez dished out a pair of assists, while Kelly Sabatine had a goal and an assist for St. Lawrence.
Carmen MacDonald made 27 saves to gain her first shutout of the season. Ellie Williams provided the game-winner.
Chloe Desjardins had 27 saves for the Huskies (10-6-2).
St. Lawrence hosts Boston College today at 4.
BOSTON COLLEGE 5, CLARKSON 1
The Eagles converted on three power plays as they beat the Golden Knights in a nonconference matchup of top five teams in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll at the Cheel Arena in Potsdam.
Emily Pfalzer, Taylor Wasylk and Ashley Motherwell all scored with the extra skater for fifth-ranked Boston College (12-3-2). Dana Trivigno supplied the winning goal. Corinne Boyles turned aside 28 shots.
Shelby Nisbet tallied the lone goal for No. 2 Clarkson (15-4-0).]
Golden Knights goalie Erica Howe stopped 27 shots.
Clarkson will look to bounce back as it hosts Northeastern today at 3.
AMBROSE TOP ROOKIE OF MONTH
Clarkson defenseman Erin Ambrose was named ECAC Hockeys rookie of the month Thursday. Ambrose is the top scoring rookie defenseman in the country.
Ambrose, from Keswick, Ontario, has 21 points, including 19 assists, for the Golden Knights.Ambrose and junior teammate Jamie Lee Rattray are playing for Canadas national womens under-22 developmental team at the Meco Cup this weekend in Germany.
They are missing Clarksons home games this week against Boston College and Northeastern.
