OGDENSBURG — Two accidents on Wednesday caused minor injuries to several people and the death of a buggy driver’s horse.

At 3:50 p.m. a tractor-trailer rear-ended a car on Route 37 between Madlin and Houmiel Camp roads. Lois A. Lithgow, 80, of Ottawa, Ontario, was stopped behind a school bus when her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer driven by Saciid H. Kulaim, 47, Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Kulaim could not stop the rig in time, state police said.

Mrs. Lithgow was treated for a minor upper arm injury and her passenger, Jocelyne Davison, 76, was treated for a minor neck injury, according to state police.

Mr. Kulaim was cited for following too closely.

At 6:05 p.m., a vehicle driven by Scotty G. Brown, 48, heading west ran into a horse-drawn buggy traveling east on Taylor Road.

The Brown vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane while rounding a sharp corner, state police said. It struck both the horse and buggy.

The operator of the buggy, Jacob U. Hershberger, 21, suffered an injury to his head, but refused medical treatment, according to state police. The horse suffered extensive injuries and was euthanized at the scene by a veterinarian.

No tickets were issued, but an investigation is ongoing, state police said.
