POTSDAM - At 8:49 a.m. Vanessa Lucas gave birth to Nathan, the first baby of 2013 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Nathan was born at 20.5 inches long and eight pounds, .2 ounces, about four hours after Vanessa went into labor. He is Vanessa and Andy Lucas’ third child.

Their first, Logan is 7 years old, and their second, Memphis, is 4 years old.

They plan to take Nathan home either today or Saturday. He’s about the same size as Logan and Memphis were when they were born.

Ms. Lucas is pleased Nathan has the distinction of being the first baby of the new year at CPH

“It’s very exciting. It feels like he is a little celebrity,” she said.

The family has received gifts including a gift basket from Kinney Drug Stores, a one-month membership to The Body Shop Fitness Center, a $100 Savings Bond from North Country Savings Bank, a $25 gift card from SaveALot in Potsdam and a $25 gift card from IGA in Potsdam.

They also received a 10 percent off coupon from Northwoods Furniture in Norwood and Ogdensburg, and a three-month subscription to The Daily Courier-Observer/Advance News.

Ms. Lucas hopes to share this moment with all her friends and family.

“I’ll make everyone” buy a copy of the paper, she said.
