Watertown police charged Travis L. Peterkin, 43, of 24480 Route 12, Apt. 107, town of Watertown, with third-degree assault, resisting arrest and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance Sunday after he allegedly attacked an officer.

According to police, Mr. Peterkin punched Officer Matthew J. Dawley three or four times in the face about 2:45 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of Stone Street, then fled. Arrested on the street’s 500 block, Mr. Peterkin was found carrying 21 oxycodone pills, police said.

Taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, he was being held on $5,000 bail.
