WADDINGTON – A committee charged with organizing events around the Bassmasters Elite Series Tournament estimates it will cost $60,000 to $70,000. The committee hopes to raise the money predominately through donations and fundraisers.

“The cost will cover everything from a reception for anglers and to the ice for the fish,” Mayor Janet M. Otto-Cassada said Monday.

The cost will also cover approximately 60 hotel accommodations for Bassmaster organizers, as required in the contract between Bassmaster and the village.

The committee charged with organizing the event says it will be reaching out to businesses and the New York Power Authority for support and donations.

The St. Lawrence River Showdown, organized by FISHCAP and sponsored by the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, is scheduled for Aug. 8 to 11, with an additional week of practice time before the tournament.

“The committee has had a few meetings, nothing earthshattering,” said Mrs. Otto-Cassada. “We’re trying to get our ducks in a row. Bassmaster is very impressed with how far we’ve gone to organize the event. People’s responses have been fantastic so far. Everyone has been a positive with Bass.”

St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce has volunteered to help with the week-long festival leading up to the tournament, as well as marketing and advertising.

“I am so happy they’ve volunteered to help us with the festival aspect on this,” said Mrs. Otto-Cassada. “We are working very close knit with several groups to bring this to fruition in St. Lawrence County. If we can showcase our county, more of these events will come. And it will only help our tourism business and our bottom line.”
