Upon arriving at the Watertown Veterans Affairs Specialty Clinic on Dec. 13, my designated driver and I were greeted not only by a friendly staff but, to my pleasant surprise, three of the nicest human beings ever! They represented the Jefferson County American Legion Auxiliaries. They had prepared and were surrounded by a veritable feast of goodies that were freely offered to any vet as he or she came to or completed their individual appointments.
Living alone for many years, with children and such in far-flung states, holidays for me are not always the brightest spots on my calendar. The atmosphere of cheer and genuine respect shown by these remarkable ladies for those of us who have served our country not only made my day, but it lifted my spirits immensely and will remain in my memory for a very long time.
I offer my humble thanks to each of them and their organization for all they did and no doubt will continue to do, and I urge any and all who can, to support their cause.
